About

Ken Welch is the owner of Smart Choice Inspections, LLC. After a career in law enforcement of over two decades, he began working full-time in construction in 2012. He worked with Cogdill Woodworking until 2014, then expanded Ken Welch Contracting full-time. In 2019 Ken Welch Contracting became Smart Choice Construction. His work as a contractor often caused him to be described as meticulous and a perfectionist.

Ken opened Smart Choice Inspections, LLC after completing the 120-hour Home Inspector Course from American Home Inspector Training (AHIT), passing the South Dakota-modified National Home Inspector Exam, and obtaining the relevant registrations in Iowa, Nebraska, and South Dakota.

Ken has always believed in treating customers like friends and never pressuring customers into decisions that make them uncomfortable. He is eager to provide a thorough inspection report, and also to explain the report and to discuss it with you and to help put into the proper context the information in that report.

Ken is a Sioux City native: a graduate of East High School, WITCC (Western Iowa Technical Community College), and Morningside University. He and his wife raised 5 children that are all now adults still living in the Sioux City area, and have a total of four grandkids-so far.
